GM animus dooms Indian farmers: Innovation is the answer to affordable Bt cotton technology 

The biggest threat to cotton farmers is the bollworm, because of its ability to cause extraordinary damage to crops and livelihoods. In the 1990s, pesticides were the only weapon farmers had against the bollworm. Government may offer up to 15% discount on new vehicles if you junk your old ones 

The road transport and highways ministry has prepared a draft voluntary vehicle fleet modernisation policy for four-wheelers older than 12 years. As per the policy, anyone voluntary scrapping his pre-Bharat stage II vehicle (older than 12 years) will get up to 15% discount (including manufacturer discount and rebate on excise duty) on new vehicles. Bengaluru's Basaveshwara Circle-Hebbal flyover plan may be junked 

The Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) is planning to drop the idea of building the 6.9-km six-lane elevated road from the Basaveshwara Circle to Hebbal. The project was meant to improve connectivity to the international airport.  Only two firms, Larsen & Toubro and Navayuga Group, have been shortlisted through a tender process that opened September last. Centre to plan structure of National Board for Skill Development Certification

Government may consider 80 PSUs for asset sale or disinvestment 

The government plans to examine around 80 state-owned companies for either strategic stake sale or sale of some assets or units under its renewed disinvestment programme, a senior official said.  The unique selling point (USP) of these central public sector enterprises (CPSEs) will be the various clearances that will come with such a sale along with the ready infrastructure made available, said the official.  In his budget speech, finance minister Arun Jaitley had noted that the government will    [….] Read more at:



Services PMI cools to 3-month low, rate cut hopes brighten 

India's economic growth slowed in February and the services sector activity fell to a 3-month low amid subdued growth in new orders, a monthly survey showed today, adding to expectations of a rate cut by the Reserve Bank.  The Nikkei Services Business Activity index fell to a 3-month low of 51.4 in February, from 54.3 in January, as increase in prices led to muted demand.  Although new orders at services firms continued to rise in February, the rate of expansion eased to the weakest since last    [….] Read more at:
